Things to do this August

As promised I am going to be posting a monthly “things to do”! August begins on tomorrow, so I wanted to give you guys a run down on what is going on in NY! Some of these activities can be done after August… but just to give you some ideas! Here goes…
Museum Exhibits-

Chihuly- glass exhibit will be going on until October 29th. I went there a few weeks ago and it was truly incredible. I had never been to the NY Botanical Gardens before, the grounds were enormous! The glass sculptures incorporated into the flower exhibition was amazing. I would highly recommend visiting it! If you’re going on a hot day, make sure to have water with you, or purchase when you walk in. Here is a link to check out there website. https://www.nybg.org/event/chihuly-2/

The Cloisters– It is a branch of the MET. I went there last Sunday. I felt like I was walking through the castle of Hogwarts in Harry Potter! It beautiful and you do not feel like you are in NYC. If you are looking for a relaxed afternoon to see views of the Hudson or you are interested in Christian Art then this is the perfect place for you. We stayed for about an hour and half because we mostly came for the views. It is located next to the Fort Tyron Park. You can picnic or relax there before or after your visit. Here is the link to check it out. http://www.metmuseum.org/visit/met-cloisters
Eloise at the Museum- exhibit is going on until October 9th. I have not been yet, but I loved Eloise growing up. So I will be checking it out. http://www.nyhistory.org/exhibitions/eloise-museum
Activities-
City walking tours- I have personally not been on a walking tour of the NYC. It has been on my list of things to do for a while now, because I usually do one when I visit a new city. Most of them take place in the morning. Unless you’re doing an evening tour. If you are interested in learning more about NYC, then google- free walking tours NYC. You will get your results. The tours are generally free and you tip your guide when the tour ends.

Brooklyn Bridge and the Anish Kapoor Descension– The bridge is definitely a nice place to walk around when the weather is nice. The art installation is going on until September 10th. Check it out- https://www.publicartfund.org/view/exhibitions/6176_anish_kapoor_descension
Free Summer Movies– I went to an outdoor movie in the park last month with some girlfriends to watch “Mean Girls”. It was a lot of fun! We brought a blanket and dinner with us and watched a movie in the summer heat! If I would go again, I would probably bring a low beach chair to sit in. My butt started to numb towards the end. There were seasoned movie viewers that came prepared with these chairs and I vowed to bring one next time.
The have all different movie viewings going on all summer for families and adults. You can bring snacks and alcohol and enjoy a free night out! Make sure to come earlier than the viewing time, because you want to get a good place and not have to sit to far from the screen. Here is a website you can use to help find out the different times and locations. https://www.nycgovparks.org/events/free_summer_movies
Sunset Sail Happy Hour- This is exactly what it sounds like. Sailing on the Hudson during the sunset, drinking alcohol! What could be better. https://www.timeout.com/newyork/things-to-do/sunset-sail-happy-hour

Events-
Afropunkfest- August 26&27 http://afropunkfest.com/brooklyn/line-up/
US Open- August 28th to September 10th.
I hope your August is full of fun and happiness! Please feel free to ask your questions in the comments or by sending me an email!
Cheers,
Batsheva
