Mykonos Travel Guide
We had the chance to visit Mykonos for 3 days last month. I have always wanted to go after falling in love with Greece when we visited Santorini (click here for my Santorini Guide). Mykonos is much larger than Santorini. It is known as a party island because of all the all night parties and celebrities that visit.
I’m going to be honest, if I had to choose between the two islands I would go to Santorini. We aren’t huge party people… so I prefer pretty beaches and activities over parties all night 🙂 But thats just me! If you do enjoy going out then Mykonos is for you!
I generally plan our vacations/trips but I asked Ben to take the lead on this one since I knew it would be more chilled. He did a great job and found the kind of places that had a nice mix of music and relaxation. Here you go-
Beach Clubs-
SantaAnna- we got a cabana on by the pool which was very large with an island in the middle. In the afternoon they had a DJ come and play great music. They also have chairs and cabanas by the beach.
Scorpios- this is one of the hottest beach clubs day and night! We went at night and its a super cool vibe but didn’t love the music. But I heard that it changes on the night… Sunday is the most popular day. They have chairs and cabanas on the beach (no pool).
Blue Marlin Ibiza- This was basically a beautiful beach with drinks and food service. It was the nicest beach we saw and it was nice to have some quiet time and relax. At night it turns into a party.
Other noteworthy beach clubs that we didn’t make it to-
Nighttime Clubs-
Most of the above have nightlife as well.
Cavo Paradiso We bought tickets for the first night we were there and then we got so exhausted by 1am we didn’t go. Yes, everything starts past 1am.
Skandinavian Nightclub This was a small place in Mykonos town that had great music. We ordered 2 drinks by the bar and the waitress let us pass the line to get into the club.
Things to know-
- Mykonos is huge! Much larger than Santorini, so there are a lot of areas that you can stay in. We decided to stay in Mykonos town since it is the most centrally located and we were only there a few days. Looking back maybe I would have stayed by one of the beach towns, but it depends what you are looking for.
- There are only 30 taxis in all of Mykonos! Your hotel will try to get you to book hotel transfers which are double what the taxis charge. We had to pay a few times because we couldn’t get a taxi, so beware!
- Make sure to watch the sunset in Mykonos town by the windmills. It was beautiful.
