5 Year Wedding Anniversary

I have to admit I am in a bit of shock that I am writing this post! I know for some people a five-year wedding anniversary isn’t a big deal but to a 24 year old, it is! Ben and I are going on 7 years of being together! We started dating when we were 18 years old, and against all odds we are still together. I would have never guessed that what started off, as a summer fling would turn into a marriage and a lifetime commitment.

Our Story:

We met through family friends and started talking, which turned into dating. We spent most of the summer of 2011 together. Ben had just graduated high school (I am a grade older because I skipped). He was leaving to Israel to spend the year studying and we were just having fun being young and in love. I don’t think anyone thought we would last. We were just two eighteen year olds enjoying a summer off. When Ben left for the year it was the hardest thing. We said our goodbyes and tried to let the other go. How would it work? We were so young! But we came to the agreement that we would part on good terms and if we were both still single when he got back, then we would pick things back up.

I knew the moment he left that I couldn’t let go of him that easily. We tried not speaking and taking a break but by December we were back to speaking daily. I patiently awaited his return in March for his break. It wasn’t easy picking up where we left off after being apart for so long. We had become so close over the phone but it wasn’t the same as dating in person. Eventually we got back on track and into the flow of a normal relationship. The summer of 2012 we got engaged and on October 17th 2012 we were married!

Fast Forward 5 Years:

I cannot believe we made it to 5 years. My 19 year old self would have never believed that 5 years later I would have started a blog. When we got married, I had just finished cosmetology school and I was working at a salon! Ben was still studying in Israel and life and the future seemed like a big question mark with many unknowns.

Honestly getting married so young has had its hard parts, but I am very thankful that we have come this far and that I have a partner in life that I love and who supports me. We have worked hard to get to where we are and thankfully we have grown up together! Thank God marriage gets better every year! We have been each other’s partners to grow as a person and figure out what we want out of life! I am so thankful that I have married my best friend.

I would say major pro of getting married young is that we had the chance to travel the world together, to live carefree and to enjoy our youth. We have traveled to 12 countries together over the past 5 years and I hope to travel to many more places, as we grow older.
